Filters. Are. Everywhere. We can't open any social media platform without seeing a crown of flowers on someone's head with those perfect turquoise eyes and flawless skin. Don't get me wrong-they're fun! I've laughed until I cried playing with filters with my 1 year old niece. I mean come on....look at this face....

Filters make us look flawless to others. It has become an act of bravery to post a photo that says #nofilter-this is the real me.

Let's first define FILTER:

1. Noun-any substance through which liquid or gas is passed to remove impurities or recover solids

Think of an air filter, oil filter in your car, coffee filter, water filter for your drinking water

2. Verb-to act as a filter for; to slow or partially obstruct the passage of

Picture the way leaves on a tree filter the sunlight

OK-so what's so bad about filters? Nothing....if it's clean.

"Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water."

Hebrews 10:22

We must be willing to bring our dirt to God and allow Him to make us clean. The phrase "hearts sprinkled" refers to a conscience that has been purified and guilt removed. Jesus purifies us when He takes away our sin and enters our lives.

-distractions (social media, phone, TV, etc)

The world (and the enemy) loves to fill our minds and hearts with these things that keep us so full that we can't hear God, see Him, and even paralyze us from moving forward into who He is calling us to be.

-Pray and ask God to reveal the things that are keeping Him from flowing through you

-Resolve to remove those things with His DAILY help

-Search for scripture on those topics and begin to declare them over your life

-Fill your mind with His book instead of Facebook, sermons on YouTube, fill your music library with inspirational songs (I love the song "Clean" by Natalie Grant that declares there is nothing too dirty that He can't make worthy).

-Be willing to be different from the world

Sometimes you may need to just remove the filter completely. Let people see the real you. Bring the real you to Him and watch Him work.

"See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure."

1 John 3:1-3

When we allow God to purify us we are open to His work within us. Today let's make the decision together to offer a cleansed, pure heart to our Father. One that He can use to glorify His great name. One with #nofilter.

Let's pray.

Thank you for showing yourself mighty in our lives. Thank you that there's nothing too dirty that you can't make clean. Today we submit our minds, hearts, and bodies to you. Show us the places that you are trying to flow through that we are not allowing, and help us to remove them. Cleanse us. Purify us. Use us. When others ask what is so different about us, let us only point to you. Give us the mind of Christ. In Jesus name, Amen.
